Hello! It’s me again. I’ve been playing with the Selkirk Labs Project Boomstik Widebody for a few weeks now, and I wanted to jot down my thoughts. Honestly, it’s one of those rackets that feels different the moment you pick it up.
First Impressions#
Right off the bat, the racket feels solid but not overly heavy. The widebody frame gives it this confidence-inspiring feel, especially when going for those aggressive shots. I usually swing a bit faster than average, and the balance of this racket didn’t throw me off at all.
Pros#
- Power without effort: The widebody really helps when I’m trying to generate extra speed on smashes. Even my off-center hits felt more forgiving than I expected.
- Comfortable on the arm: After a long session, I didn’t feel the usual wrist or elbow fatigue. It’s surprisingly arm-friendly for a racket with this much pop.
- Control is decent: Despite being power-oriented, I didn’t lose too much control on my placement. Cross-court shots and angled volleys felt precise enough for my level.
Cons#
- Spin isn’t amazing: If you’re someone who thrives on heavy topspin or slicing the ball, this racket isn’t really designed for that. You can get spin, but it’s not its strong suit.
- A bit bulky for net play: The widebody makes it slightly awkward during super quick reactions at the net. Not a dealbreaker, but something to be aware of.
- Price: It’s not cheap, and honestly, I think the premium might be justified more for the feel and tech than for performance alone.
Final Thoughts#
All in all, I really like this racket. It gives me confidence on power shots and feels solid during long rallies. I wouldn’t say it’s perfect for spin-heavy players or those who live at the net, but if you want a versatile, comfortable, and powerful racket, the Project Boomstik Widebody is worth trying out. Personally, I’m happy enough with it that it’s probably going to stay in my bag for the foreseeable future.
